Dublin’s Able Archer, aka Emmet McCaughey, Rob McDonnell, Diarmuid Breathnach, Sean O’Connor and Neil Buckley first attracted our attention with their Bullets EP, with their forceful indie/alt rock and their winning tunes enough for us to stick our hats on them to make it big.
Their second, as yet unnamed EP is due out this Summer, and from it the band have released a new video from the track Ghostmaker. It starts out with these slightly angular bounding guitars, like a muscular Franz Ferdinand, but its soon obvious that these boys have more pent up aggression that the Scottish art rockers, and it ends with a bit mo of the Biffy about it. Not only in terms of these melodic riffs that batter your ears and heart into loving them, but also this sing/shout along chorus as well.
It’s accompanied by a moody black and white video of the band, and associated slogan, as they go about the business furiously performing the song to nicely edited arty shot. Not original maybe, but classy.
We thought they’d be comtenders anyway, and Ghostmaker has done nothing to think we were wrong. Catch them, if you can, at their headline gig on April 17th in the Workmans Club, Dublin.
