Ahead of the release of their self-titled debut album, Berlin instrumental noise rockers ZAHN have unveiled a visually alluring video for the album’s penultimate track, ‘Aykroyd’. The track builds upon the propulsive, hammering bass and drums from HEADS. rhythm section Chris Breuer and Nic Stockmann that made that band’s sophomore full-length, ‘Push’, one of 2020’s most interesting and exciting noise rock/heavy post-punk albums, by pairing them with epic, sludgey riffs courtesy of sometime Einstürzende Neubaten keyboardist Felix Gebhard. Check it out below.
The video is directed by up-and-coming animator Dimitris Armenakis, and appears to be a natural evolution from his previous short All You Can Eat, which was concerned with over-consumption in modern society. Here, animals and foodstuffs pursue each other and eat and drink each other up against a lurid, psychedelic backdrop.
Armenakis says he “mixed different visual elements such as horses, snakes, coffee cups, representative of each member in ZAHN, animated along with cows inspired by the album cover.” He adds that “to enrich the characters and the universe of the video, I used cakes, milk boxes, and tableware that fit with morning coffee.” ZAHN’s eponymous full-length debut is released via Crazysane on August 20th.
