Here at Backseat Mafia we’d usually begin a single review by telling you what the band had done recently, but thanks to the ongoing global pandemic the answer to that is well, not a whole lot!
However, with all the “spare” time everyone has on their hands right now the boys in The Brackets have been busy writing new music for lovers of solid indie bops!
Formed originally in 2015, the lads have been through more vocalist changes than the Sugababes but seem to have settled on a sound in 2021. Having released their debut EP Nothing to Write Home About in 2017 the Northern souls are premiering their brand new release Ashley exclusively on Backseat Mafia and we couldn’t be happier! We can’t wait to hear this live as soon as Covid jogs on!
Ashley is a jolly indie banger with poignant lyrical undertones but that’s in no way a downer to the track- you’ll be singing the chorus for weeks!! The jarring guitar from Thomas Windle is infectious and the rhythm section of bassist Glenn Beal and drummer Andy Morrey’s smooth rhythms makes your hips jiggle more than the weight we’ve all gained in lockdown! The track is also the first time the world gets to hear new vocalist Eric Hayes with the boys, his dulcet tones marry perfectly with the down-to-earth indie vibe that the boys have established over the past few years. Even though the song is just over 2 minutes 30, it’s as sweet as a nut and honestly has been on repeat for us since we first heard it!
Ashley is available to stream/buy from Apple Music , Spotify and iTunes
