We’ll preface this one simply: we’re so excited to be sharing this one with you. If you missed it last month, we premiered the lead single from chameleonic Brooklyn artist Brook Pridemore – they’ve been around the block a few times and seen a lot of shit; hence, the title of their new album, Glad to Be Alive. Equal parts a statement of celebration and defiance. They’ve been carving out their own niche in the wider Brooklyn scene for years, and their seventh album finds them taking a daring leap into what could ostensibly be called pop music.
There’s much more to this album than we could touch on in a brief introduction. ‘Wore Me Well’ is just one example of Pridemore’s artistry. On a home-recorded album made with Ben Hozie of contemporaries Bodega, there’s a lot to discover amid hard-hitting lyrical observations and the kind of heart-on-sleeve musical accompaniment that will appeal to fans of Frightened Rabbit, Bright Eyes (particularly the early stuff), Manchester Orchestra, BC Camplight and ManDancing. If you think you know what to expect even with those reference points, you don’t. The 15-track record drops tomorrow but we’re sharing the whole thing early – in a month that’s stacked with new albums and big returning names to an almost ridiculous degree, you don’t want to miss this. Get stuck in below.
