Well, that’s one way to start the year. If you’ve been keeping an eye on Los Angeles band Strawberry Fuzz, you’re about to have a very good week. In November, they released the Wasting My Time EP, a sampler from their forthcoming second album. Or rather, imminent second album, because it’s done – and it’s out tomorrow.
We’ve had an early listen, and it absolutely rips – it’s got the spirit of The Chats, the sardonic wit of Viagra Boys and the energy of White Reaper at their most urgent. If that sounds like your kind of thing and you’ve got two minutes to spare, we’re premiering ‘Dropout’, which takes a look at LA drug culture, set to thunderous riffs that lurch into, and out of, an unsteady half-time chorus.
Vocalist Colby Rodgers says the song’s directly inspired by his experiences: “In high school, it was casual to see kids taking pills in the bathroom. South LA is a nice beach community, but a lot of kids were getting into heavy shit fast. Luckily, I was a stoner back then, so I didn’t get caught up in the oxy.”
Tune in below; Strawberry Fuzz’s new album Strongs Dr. arrives at midnight.
