Welsh-Australian singer-songwriter Harvey Jones has producer Charlie Francis, and session musicians Davey Newington (Boy Azooga) and Matt Evans (KEYS) to release a new single under his moniker Sonny Winnebago called Lemonade, and we’re delighted to premiere the video right here on Backseat Mafia today.
Of the track and its accompanying visuals, Jones says “The concept was to create something a little nostalgic. I used to make lemonade as a kid growing up in Australia, so including a lemonade stand in the video was a great jumping-off point. I also really love the cinematography of Napoleon Dynamite and Wes Anderson films, so we sprinkled a lot of that throughout. I also wanted it to have a simple, childlike ‘DIY’ feel, similar to 90s/2000s cartoons like Rugrats & Recess.”
Taking inspiration from 70s troubadours such as Harry Nilsson and Cat Stevens, with a dash of Kevin Ayers here and a spot of DIY indie-folk there, this sort of aimless charm that purveys the whole thing. Right from the dishevelled ‘In the Summertime’ like stomp, to the airey woodwinds that dance in and out of each other, Lemonade is the sort of quirky but impossibly catchy summer anthem that surely everyone needs in their life. Certainly, we do.
