Premiere: Rustbelt prepares for imminent EP release with ‘Gimme A Sign’

Milwaukee’s John Chiaverina made a career as Juiceboxxx, tore it all down and started again. This is the story of what came next – what he’s doing now. If you haven’t been on board with Rustbelt: (a) what are you even doing?; and (b) fix that immediately. We’re premiering the final single from his incoming EP to help you with that.

Like the rest of the songs on the You Got Nowhere to Go But You’re Going There Tonight EP, the appropriately pleading ‘Gimme A Sign’ is drawn from real-life experience, some of it in the life of Chiaverina’s former guise: “I’m the last of my last name/I’m the end of the line/Been a fuck-up forever/Ooh, please give me a sign.”

Giving an overview of the new project (with more to come later in the year!), Chiaverina says: “These are songs I had to write and get out into the world. I spent 20 years making music under the name JUICEBOXXX and I still feel pretty unresolved about the whole thing. This EP is about growing up and freaking out and working hard to keep going. These are songs about the past, songs about the present, songs about the future looking back at the past, songs about playing at bloghouse parties… I’m working within a tradition of American Underdog Pop Music, everything from DIY singles to Top 40. Within that, I’m trying to squeeze out something catchy and weird and my own.”

Also featuring two previous singles, the EP arrives tomorrow via Dangerbird Records.
