Premiere: Polyhymns release the beautiful alt-folk of ‘JK’

Sheffield trio Polyhymns are gearing up for the release of their debut EP ‘Hybrid Sunday’, available on Limited Edition 10” Lathe Cut Vinyl with Sheffield’s Do It Thissen Record Label, and deliberately scheduled to fit in with Bamdcamps first Friday of the month offers – do yourselves a favour, right? From the EP we’re delighted to premiere ‘JK’ right here on Backseat Mafia today.

Of the track Polyhymns describe it as an “alt-folk song celebrating diversity in learning with kaleidoscopic guitars and typewriter handclaps”, and that’s pretty much what it is. Opening with these almost hypnotic acoustic guitar lines, and tumbling drum lines, what really makes the track are these beautiful almost CSN like harmonies over which the accompaniment ebbs and flows, the tunes setting camp in your heart. Although it clicks in at two and a half minutes, somehow it doesn’t seem anywhere near long enough, leaving you wanting to grab at the song as it floats off.

Beautiful stuff. Check it out, here
