Five piece alternative Funk / jazz band Pocket Dragon have just announced a new double A side single ‘35 Degrees’/‘Vagabond Capulet’. It sees the band, who have been honing their skills both in the studio and playing at the likes of Cheltenham and Cambridge jazz festival give their neo-soul/fusion funk even more of a twist.
We’re delighted to premiere the new video from the band for one of those tracks – Vagabond Capulet, this stuttering, flitting slice of fusion jazz funk, layered with vocal harmonies, and melodic lines which twist and extend, or are interrupted and hurriedly change direction at a heartbeat. Above all of it though, it manages to remain engaging, melodic, and funky.
Of the video and track, the band say “We didn’t think we could convincingly mime in a music video. That’s why we simply set up a few cameras in our home studio and filmed the whole recording process live. What you see is what you hear.
The song title comes from the famous Juliet; the lead character in a tale of star-crossed lovers. In a nutshell, this song is about chasing love around in Paris and not giving up on a relationship. But more importantly, it’s about playing intense funk in 3/4!”
Incredible stuff.
