Premiere: Perth-based troubadour Damien Binder returns with the glorious sparkling track ‘Crazy’.

In these times of turbulence and turmoil, it is always good to have something that is consistent and dependable, and the delivery of a new single from Perth-based New Zealand troubadour Damien Binder provides a delicious surfeit of comfort and salve. We are therefore extremely honoured to premiere the first single ‘Crazy’ from this prodigious talent since the release of his album ‘Brightside’ in April 2023 (see my review here).

‘Crazy’ is the first single from Binder’s forthcoming new EP, distributed by Big Pop Digital and is yet another example of the sonic mastery he effortlessly displays. Crisp acoustic guitars jangly like sleigh bells under Binder’s soft, yearning vocals that are enhanced by layered harmonies. A glorious chorus lifts the track up to celestial heights with a hint of a country twang. There are subtle shades of Springsteen and even Beck in the immersive delivery, with more than a touch of the delicate pop sensibilities of fellow antipodeans Crowded House. The result is something that glides through the air like an eagle surfing on the slipstreams, magnificent and imperious.

Binder says of the track:

‘Crazy’ is a compassionate reminder that you’re not what you do, you’re enough as you are. The song was Inspired by watching a young person cracking under the weight of career expectations and the pressure to get it right before they had even hit their teens.

Binder’s warmth seeps through the track, providing a safe berth in stormy seas:

‘Crazy is out tomorrow through all the usual download and streaming sites but you can get it exclusively through the link above.

Binder will be launching the single in Perth on Friday, 21 June 2024 – details below.
