You didn’t think they’d be away for long, did you? The John Dwyer-led OSEES/Oh Sees/Orange County Sound etc. haven’t taken a year off since they released their debut album 1 in 2003, so it stands to reason we’d be hearing about a new record this year. Announced back in May with the title track ‘Intercepted Message’, it’s out in a few short weeks and we’ve got the new single for you.
It is literally a ‘Stunner’, a live performance video which features the band updating their sound once again, moving into erratic synth-punk territory on a song which goes to as many places as possible in under three minutes. Here’s Dwyer on their new record’s opening track: “Life is a short hot mess. Take a breath in the moments when you’re not taking it right in the face. Frenetic tunes for scattered times. Matt Yoka came up with the idea of filming us playing the song in our rehearsal space with as many people as we could fit and as many formats as he could stomach. Hi vis on all the kids. Constricted & claustrophobic just as contemporary routines can be. Noise, obstacle and pointless spectacle. There is no escape! Good luck.”
Tune in below; Intercepted Message is out Friday August 18th via In the Red/Castle Face Records.
