In February, the Vermont-based Moira Smiley released her most recent album In Our Voices, her attempt to reconnect with the world of a capella singing from which she came – regularly performing with VOCO, their plans for a tour of the US in early 2020 were scuppered for obvious reasons. Unable to perform live for the foreseeable future, Smiley instead turned her attention to a project surrounding the release of the album with which it shares a name: the In Our Voices Initiative, a testament to global connection in the face of the pandemic.
The latest instalment of this comes in the form of a collaborative performance of album track ‘Silverlake’, with footage sent in from London, Lisbon, Athens and Rotterdam – we at Backseat Mafia are delighted to premiere the clip ahead of its release tomorrow. It’s a spine-tingling rendition, with soprano Kate Smith the leading voice, joined by Tara Reece (alto), Ben See (tenor) and Dominic Stitchbury (bass); the quintet is completed by our own Lara Eidi, who shares soprano duties with Smith. We’ve also included last month’s Naytronix remix of album opener ‘Sing About It’; check out both below.
