We’ve long been admirers of Micko and the Mellotronics, and ahead of their second album La Vice Anglais, out on 17th November, we’re absolutely delighted to be able to premiere the bands new visuals and single, Autosexual right here on Backseat Mafia.
Off the track, which features The Specials Horace Panter, Micko told us exclusively “Autosexual is essentially a riff on self love; feeling attraction towards yourself rather than another. You might ask what business is that of mine? The short answer is, it’s probably not. I do find this kind of stuff fascinating though, I just can’t help it! Is it a recent discovery? Is it partial or total? What makes people tick or in this case itch. These are my concerns. It presents many questions and ultimately that perhaps becomes the point. At the centre of it all though there’s a homage to Peter Shelley and Buzzcocks here. I do hope they’d of approved”.
The track is this gloriously messy but angular sounding thing, all sneering vocals – very much in the Shelley style, while these guitars slash and flail over the top. It’s blessed with a similarly buzzcocks-sequel killer chorus, which could momentarily divert your attention from the humour thinly veiled lyrics.
Makes for a joyous three minutes or so – check it out here.
