Formed out of the ashes of Big Deal, following three albums and a support slot with Depeche Mode, vocalist / guitarist Kacey Underwood put together London based Medium Love. Taken from their forthcoming debut EP, out on August 7th, the band have released a track ‘Can’t Go Back’, and we’re delighted to premiere it today here on Backseat Mafia
Kacey Underwood said of the track, “Most of my songs come to me in dreams – they are the soundtrack – sometimes I write about what happened in the dream or how it made me feel. I keep a phone by my bed to spit it all out before it evaporates into dream dust”.
Can’t Go Back is this immediately attractive and engaging indie rock, all sweet organ work and scruffy guitars. It’s decorated with the kinds of melody that sticks in the head, but with enough muscular energy so it doesn’t fall by the wayside. It ebbs and flows, with the sweetness of the vocal harmonies swirling around and sticking close to you.
