Art punk duo Lung are gearing for the re,ease of their third album Come Clean Right Now on August 20th via Sofaburn Records, and we’re delighted to be able to premiere the new video for their track I’m nervous right here on Backseat Mafia this morning. The duo, classically trained singer and Cellist Kate Wakefield and former Foxy Shazam, Babe Rage, and Ayin drummer Daisy Caplan make this sort of power pop rock, with the cello shredding riffs and the drums driving things onward.
Of the new track, Kate told us “’I’m Nervous’ is a song about feeling like you are living every day on repeat. It is about working a job, eating, going to sleep, and repeating it ad infinitum. The song is a ballade to that blah feeling of being robotic and without purpose. The day-in and day-out of working a job surrounded by mask-less people during a pandemic all the while realizing the total lack of control you have in guiding your own life. It’s about feeling like the rug was pulled out from under us and then realization that there wasn’t solid ground holding anyone up to begin with.”
It’s all filthy riffs, the cello given this hard edged feel with effects, and pulsating drumming, but it’s also this taught, simmering pop song, blessed with singalong melodies and a punk edge to it. Check out the accompanying video, which sees both band members take turns to be awkward costumers, with Kate in particular exacting revenge.
