Providence indie outfit Lookers unveil their new single and video, Alone, today—a beautiful slab of laid-back, shoegaze-inflected indie rock. Marked by delicately picked guitars and a chorus that immediately lingers, Alone never quite lets off the leash, yet it brims with a loungey swagger and quiet intensity.

Following the gritty, synth-driven Bury You Under, today’s release finds Lookers in a more introspective space. Vocalist Muggs Fogarty describes Alone as “a poem about the feedback loop of each lover’s effect on the other and the next. A slow burn of fates and watery time.” There’s something haunting yet deeply sensual at play here—a mood the band crafts through shimmering guitar textures and hypnotic melodies.

“That’s exactly the mood we were aiming for—melancholic, reminiscent,” Fogarty explains. “We wanted to make music that moved and shimmered like light on water. Music to listen to while rain hits the window pane, and old loves step to the forefront of the mind.”

Alone is the latest glimpse into Lookers’ debut album, Deeper, due April 25th via Almost Ready Records. The record, produced by Bradford Krieger at Big Nice Studio, explores themes of desire, loss, and longing. “The record as a whole moves through many emotional landscapes. We hope to offer some catharsis—opportunities to shake or sulk, or some combination of both,” Fogarty shares.

The song itself has been gestating for years, its meaning evolving over time. “The earliest version of this song was written before the pandemic, if you can believe it,” says Fogarty. “I listen to it now sometimes and think, Oh, you sweet, summer child. You have no idea.”

With its dreamlike aura and undeniable pull, Alone is a stunning addition to Lookers’ growing catalog. Watch the video now, and prepare for Deeper’s arrival next month.
