Out tomorrow (8th February) is the new single from Ken, aka Ken Billington. It’s taken from his forthcoming album ‘I’m your man’, the whole thing written and recorded in his Bristol home using just two microphones. We’re delighted to be able to premiere for the a-side Human Touch right here on Backseat Mafia today.
Of the song, Ken told us “I wrote ‘Human Touch’ after realising how much I missed physical connection. There was a void in my heart and I needed to fill it. It’s a reflection on how I was missing human relations, not only romantically but also as a human being in a time where physical connection is fleeting. I knew I’d written an anthem as soon as I blackened the pages in my songbook.
The B side is a song for my second love, Aston Villa. Written to boost the players morale as they faced relegation last year. It worked, we stayed up. Maybe my songs are magic, but I’ll leave that for you to decide?”
Wrapped in synths and electronic hue, Human Touch has this deft, instantly lovable melody, simple and yet with just a tinge of melancholy as his baritone yearns for moments of contact over the top. Pulled together, it’s like a lo-fi Human League playing a Edwyn Collins song.
Yeah. That good.
