Premiere: ‘JFC’, this new Day Joy song is good; new album this year

Succinctly capturing the national mood with the title of their new single and the album it’s taken from, Austin-based band Day Joy (led by Michael Serrin) make it two singles in not even a month with ‘JFC’, which pairs up with last month’s ‘Parking Lot Astronautical’ as the first brace of singles from the band’s first album in 5 years.

A vibrant full-band sound combines with intense, diaristic lyrics to offer listeners insight into the follow-up to 2020’s Great Satan, Mass Appeal; steeped in emotional turmoil, the result is a notably downcast song that’s nonetheless irresistible. With some spice on top from producer Andy LeMaster (whose credits include all sorts of involvement with Bright Eyes, as well as more recent work with Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit), it’s clear the band are ready to make a statement.

The lyric video for ‘JFC’ premieres below; Closed Caption For the Horror follows in the autumn.
