We are very honoured to bring an exclusive listen to the self-titled debut EP from Italian band Brothers No More, released through the esteemed Dirty Beach label.

Brothers No More are part of the incredibly rich indie music scene in in Italy and bring to the table a muscular brand of rock filled with melody and jangling guitars. Born in 2022 the band consists of Gerry Guarino on vocals, D. Guarino on guitars, Paolo Langella on bass, Carmine Ciccarone on drums and Francesco Rizzo on guitars and keyboards. Producer and manager Roberto Forlano is considered to be the sixth member.

The band deal in serious subjects, sung in English – the opening track ‘Falling Grace’ is about the horrors of domestic violence in an anthemic jangling track that recalls bands like Interpol mixed in with eighties/nineties bands like The Fixx or The Manic Street Preachers. The delivery is passionate and urgent, tinged with an air of melancholia and a cinematic scope. The second track gave the band its name and is about gravity of war and failure of governments to provide solutions. Delivered over driving, pounding drums and bass, it is visceral and raw, filled with an urgency and anger.

‘Technicolor’ was the band’s first single and coasts along on crystalline guitars with dreamy distant vocals framed by raw backing vocals and a rousing chorus that is infused with a sense of hope and optimism. As with the rest of the album, the track features a delicious sharp production that cuts like a knife and a certain element of melancholia. it’s an euphoric pop song coated in a steely spine.

‘White Daffodils’ has an acoustic jangle – open and spacious sounds that have a trade mark melodic scope – wide open and expansive while a gritty bass drives out a thundering path. Perfect pop melodies and a sense of yearning fill the track.

Final track ‘The Caregiver’ continue the deep seated element of optimism and hope in the band’s message; as if providing answers to the grim world presented by the opening two tracks. It provides a panacea to the loss of human connections – emphasising the importance of family and love. There is a bedrock of arpeggiated guitars and haunting synths that combine with the delicate melodies to create something as expensive as the oceans without horizons.

This is an immersive collection of songs, delivered with passion and emotion though shimmering, muscular instrumentation. With a genetic code of eighties and nineties indie rock, a touch of shoegaze in its attack, Brothers No More have delivered an impressive debut that sparkles and shines with intensity.

‘Brothers No More’ is out on Friday, 28 June 2024 through all the usual download and streaming sites.
