There’s not many people who like industrial, post-techno, electronic rock music like we do, so we are beyond delighted to be able to premiere the new video from such a outfit in the shape of In Violet, and their new single Cathedral Thinking right here on Backseat Mafia this morning.
Since their last record some five years ago, the band has undergone line-up changes and has signed to a new label, Glasshouse Records, to release their music on. Of the new track, band mainstay Jake Murray says “The world is lurching towards disaster. While the greatest threat to this planet’s continued stability surges ever closer at alarming rates, we are growing ever more divided. Society is polarised, our discourse is volatile and our time is running out. Will we hold those who lead us accountable, and reach across the aisles to turn a corner in this critical moment of human history? or will our divisions grow and our apathy lead us, blindfolded, to an extinction of our own making?”
Cathedral Thinking is this monumental eight and a half minute slab of churning, swirling electronic rock, with guitars and chop and chatter, sprawling drums and flickering electronics. It all bleeds together into a gripping experience, with melodies, ideas and noise strewn all over the track, with enough of each to pin you to your seat and keep you there. It’s astonishing stuff.
Check out the accompanying mind-altering video, made by VHS Wizard Stephen MacFarlane.
