London newcomers heavy wild share the haunting, hazey and effortlessly cool new lyric video for their new single ‘Death Dreams’, needless to say we’re very excited to be running the premiere!
Creating a captivating grunge tinted shoegaze soundscape, ‘Death Dreams’ brings together dark, atmospheric soundscape with it’s cavernous reverbs and wonderfully lazy delivery. Led by the plucky, intertwining guitar lines, the soundscape brings together driving bass, distant drums and sparkling synths to create a sound comparable to Slowdive as it is to ‘A Forest’ by The Cure (one of my all time faves).
Progressing through it’s murky soundscape, the yearning vocals cut through the bubbling instrumentation to add a sense of melancholy and direction to the bouncing rhythms and riffs.
On the new release heavy wild say: “This song marks a slight shift in style from the earlier singles with the energy of the track mirroring the spirit in which it was written, after partying in Montreal last summer, and the emotions and themes it deals with such as grief and the hedonism which can accompany it.”
With plans for a debut EP on the horizon, heavy wild are a band well worth keeping an eye on. Their distinctive brand of fuzzy, shoegaze has a warming sense of nostalgia whilst also feeling somewhat fresh and grungy all at once, which in itself is the mark of any exciting up and comer – reminiscent of some of your old favourites yet new and exciting.
