Singer-songwriter Gianni Paci learn the ropes the hard way, touring with The Butthole Surfers, sharing the stage with, amongst others Ace Frehley of Kiss, Steven Adler of Guns N Roses and the late Mike Starr of Alice In Chains and in the studio with the likes of Gail Ann Dorsey (David Bowie, Gwen Stefani), Jon Anderson (Yes, King Crimson) and Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai). But songwriting was always where his heart lay, and so he ventured into the legendary and mysterious Pie Studios where he recorded his new EP, named after the studios. We’re delighted to premiere the opening track from the EP, Another Day in June, here on Backseat Mafia.
Recorded in one take, and armed with just his acoustic guitar, there’s a fragility to both Paci’s vocal, and indeed his songwriting, “what’s the sense in being me if who I am is not the man you want to see,” he implores at the opening, and that emotive plea stretches to the tune, as Gianni hits you right in the feels – the wistful melody opening you up for his words to hit home. The video sees him adopt the various characters/personas from his life/songs/personas. It’s clever, and very good indeed.
