Premiere: Gefahrgeist Share The Two Part Track ‘Orbit’ (Feat Rapper Conscious Route); We Get First Listen

Gefahrgeist are a Scottish electronic pop duo that combines the differing musical expertise of singer songwriter Fiona Liddell (Glasgow) and producer and bassist Niall Rae (Aberdeen). Orbit is their fourth single and features rapper, MC, poet and singer songwriter, Conscious Route. Born and raised in London, who moved to Edinburgh over a decade ago. The track was first composed by Rae as an instrumental track, before Liddell convinced him that it needed vocals. This led to the birth of their collaboration as Gefahrgeist.

Regarding the track, Fiona comments:

“‘Orbit’ is our most ambitious single to date. We collaborated with so many incredible musicians to bring this piece to life. With live woodwind and strings as well as a stunning feature from Edinburgh rapper Conscious Route, we couldn’t be happier with how it sounds as a finished piece of music. We’re confident that the song will find its audience amongst fans of video game and film music.”

At first a haunting and cold, the track starts with Liddell leading the way with her deep caramel smooth vocals over gentle orchestral movements. There’s a simple beauty in this arrangement before the track incorporates a more urban beat as Conscious Route takes over the vocal duties whilst the mini orchestra carry on with their frosty and beautiful melodies. The track delivers an interesting contrast that you have to listen to again and again.

As well as a stunning feature performance from Conscious Route, the track features gorgeous live performances from some of Scotland’s top chamber musicians:

Violins – Fiona Liddell, Lissa Robertson

Viola – Sarah Leonard

Cello – Graham Coe

Flute – Neil T Smith

Clarinet – Calum Robertson

Oboe – Luci Holland
