Ahead of the release of his new album The Forecast, out on March 17th via the ever brilliant Tapete label, Downpilot – ostensibly the project of singer-songwriter, musician and recording engineer Paul Hiraga, has released a new video for the track Black Eye, and we’re extremely pleased to be able to premiere it right here on Backseat Mafia today.
On the track, Paul exclusively told us “Black Eye, the first single from Downpilot‘s latest release The Forecast, arrives gently and brightly, settling the listener into sweet melodic sensibilities before suggesting conflicts; disconnection amid the urban crush, pushing against the currents of a quickly changing world, trying to flee and find your way, deliberately making all the wrong turns and happy to have all your mistakes come back and hit you in the face”
Its a thing of beauty, from its gentle indie pop/rock beginnings, it’s wistful melodies wrapping their way around your ears and into your minds, while it’s slight melancholy weaved into the classic pop songwriting pulls gently at the heartstrings. To top it off, there’s a wintery and rather beautifully shot accompanying video.
