Don’t Get Lemon are a three piece synth-pop/post-punk band, taking inspiration from the likes of Lust for Youth, New Order, The Human League, Giorgio Moroder and other luminaries. Their new track Futures Lost is out today and we’re delighted to premiere it right here on Backseat Mafia.
Of the track, Don’t Get Lemon say “As a band, we’re drawn to the juxtaposition of bleak lyrical themes set over bright vibrant music, and “Futures Lost” is our most striking example of this. We also experimented with the idea of using more “tropical” percussion such as steel drums and bongos. We ended up having so much fun with the song that you may expect more of this style in our future.”
Certainly, there’s plenty of New Order in there, with pulsating drums and bass and synth that weaves in and out of eachother, but there’s more of the Ian Curtis, even Andrew Erdrich about the vocals, as it saunters over the dancefloor, bubbling and gently throbbing away, the melodies emotionally taught and memorable.
