Perhaps better known as one half of the acclaimed Best Girl Athlete, who received a nomination for Scottish Album of the Year in 2018, CS Buchan is back in solo guise with a new track and accompanying video, which we’re delighted to premiere right here on Backseat Mafia today.
Of the track, Buchan says “Going Down Together was borne out of a project I was involved with for a cool wee American label called Burst and Bloom Records. I had to write something based on a ‘couples’ theme and had just been reading about Bonnie and Clyde, the infamous outlaws and ended up using them as the focus.
As with my previous releases, I was keen to experiment and work with a diverse set of musicians. Here, there are a couple of very talented Nashville country players, notably Daniel Donato lending his trademark country guitar licks to the track”.
Essentially a dark slice of indie, it pushes and prods forward, propelled by Buchan’s soft vocal and these biting guitar licks which become ever more prevalent as the track begins to unfurl, before riding high over this gloriously melodic, Teenage Fanclub-seque melody, and pull it toward Nashville. More than that though, it’s just got the right amount of melancholy and hope to break any resistance you might have had left.
On the video, Buchan continues “Clearly the video is unrelated and is simply a bit of fun. Albeit a bit of creepy, weird fun that is a montage of 1970s/80s UK public information TV adverts”.
