North Shields producer and musician Chop5, aka Anthony Wilson has just released a new single Chop5, and we’re delighted to be able to premiere the Wonky Acid Mix right here on Backseat Mafia today.
Taking in the full gambit of musical life, from starting out performing classical music in local orchestras playing the clarinet and piano, moving on to play guitar and bass in post punk, goth and grunge bands, attend legendary clubs and free parties such as Megadog, House of God, Atomic Jam, Smokescreen and DIY, DJ at house parties and more recently write and perform industrial and electronic music including a set at The Tanners Arms for 2018s Northern Electric Festival in Newcastle, Wilson seems at home in his Chop5 guise, influenced by the likes of Eat Static, FSOL, Luke Slater and Surgeon amongst others.
Free Weekend is an uplifting slice of leftfield house, with – as intimated in the title, more than a hint of acid house about it, but its this warmth – the track seems to almost wrap itself around your ears, that really works and makes it worthy of repeated listens as Wilson slowly moved things on, the subtle changes in melody and rhythm making it a journey worth taking.
