We are overjoyed to bring you an exclusive look at the video for the track ‘Chewie Loves…’ from the new group The High Kicks – consisting of David McCormack from the iconic Brisbane band Custard (as well as being the voice of TV’s favourite dog dad Bandit from Bluey) and Chad Jane from Perth band Burgers of Beef, along with drummer Russell Loasby on drums.
Out through Stable Label (‘the best record label in the world’), ‘Chewy Loves…’ is a delicious serving of whimsy and nervy, hyperkinetic pop: McCormack’s distinctive vocals lending an air of innocent bemusement as the track pirouettes and sparkles in the midday sun with a joe de vivre that’s infectious. In a good way.
The video, directed by Andrew Lancaster perfectly encapsulates the gentle whimsy in the track with a slightly macabre and sinister undertone: a perfect capture of the madcap, slightly unhinged sense of humour displayed by The High Kicks. A cavorting whirly gig of a spectre dances in a storm of apparent confetti and rags, interspersed with shots of a laconic cat doing what cats do: languidly resting and unimpressed by the maelstrom occurring around it. Is this Chewie?
Terrific stuff. Out now, you can a special 7″ edition of this little treasure through the link below.
