Since emerging on seminal Scottish label Fence (King Creosote, Pictish Trail) in 2006, Diana De Cabbarus, aka Candythief, has released a succession of critically acclaimed records with a distinctly Alt/Folk/Psych vibe, culminating in this years third full length album, ‘Imaginary Medals’. Latest track ‘Today’, continues in that vein, accompanied by this dazzling animated video, premiered here.
Diana says:
“Years ago I played a show where someone performed a routine on silks, and I thought it looked like amazing fun – but the kind of thing I’d never be able to do – a bit like the character in the video, (nicknamed Toad), I gazed at this incredible skill but it seemed way out of reach. All of us have to dredge up and can dredge up heroic qualities in smaller and larger ways, and our old ideas about who we are and what we are get to experience must be allowed to fall away for us find those qualities, and this process can be disorientating. We can wonder whether we’ve relinquished everything in the moment when we let go of one thing to reach for another.”
