It’s shaping up to be a pretty busy year for Liverpudlian Brad stank, who’s intent on making up for lost time after releasing his debut album Kinky Om in the depths of lockdown in June of 2020. Eventually returning to a full touring schedule, the R&B artist departed the spotlight to begin work on his second album, announced back in September along with tour dates – a clutch of shows in the UK & Ireland around the end of March.
Four months later, the album, titled In the Midst of You, is almost ready for release tomorrow, but he’s got one more single to share ahead of it arriving in full, in the form f the lush title track. Here’s stank on ‘In the Midst of You’ itself: “Lyrically again, almost a reminder, “it’s only for a while,” of the impermanence of all things; a similar message to George Harrison’s ‘All Things Must Pass’, etc. I love Joe [Watson]’s piano playing on this one. The end section is one of my favourite parts of the album, or of anything I’ve done. It’s the truly romantic side of the [album] idea, inspired by a gospel-y instrumental Marvin Gaye deep cut. This one goes from quite a dark and eerie sounding first half to the uplifting and gospel sound of the outro, a real journey! Musically and lyrically encapsulates the idea of the whole album, really. I hope it gives the album a joyous sounding ending.”
We’re premiering the single ‘In the Midst of You’ below; the album of the same name follows at midnight on Sunday Best Records.
