London singer-songwriter Bliss Williams is releasing his new single ‘Falling For You’ just in time for Valentine’s Day. Instead of being a loved up tale of being together though, it’s a heartbreaking story of unrequited love, and we’re delighted to be able to premiere it right here on Backseat Mafia today.
Of the song, Bliss says “I remain well-acquainted with unrequited love. So I thought it was about time I wrote another song about it. Like all my music, it was self-produced at home in between episodes of ‘The Chase’. I’ll be putting out a series of singles over the 2020/21 season, before releasing the debut long-player. I’m looking forward to singing to strangers in a poorly lit club somewhere when circumstances allow (fingers crossed for those independent venues).”
Falling For You is big pop. By big, assume tumbling chiming figures and this bassline that exudes suave right from the off. Sparkling production gives it all this rather lovely sheen, as it pushes and pulls, Williams soft vocal draped over the top, whispering in your ears. And those melodies.
Forget unrequited, get yer coat.
