It’s always good to hear from prolific South African songwriter Ashton Nyte, who’s released an impressive 18 albums between his work as leader of The Awakening and his eponymous solo venture. Based in the U.S., he’s focused on the full-band project over the last few years, in addition to being temporarily sidelined by the pandemic, but it’s his solo stuff that’s in the spotlight today.
The lead single from Nyte’s new album is the gorgeous, barebones song ‘Something Beautiful’. It reads like a straightforward love song, but there’s more to it both musically and lyrically than it initially lets on: “[It] explores a relationship from the perspective of someone who feels undeserving of happiness or love but is grateful nonetheless.” Nyte adds, with the idea of hidden depths something he’s ready to explore on the forthcoming full-length. “The new work has a fragile vulnerability to it which I’ve never fully revealed before. It is a terrifying and exhilarating new chapter for me.”
We’re premiering the video for ‘Something Beautiful’ below; it’s taken from Autumn’s Children, which follows on Friday August 25th.
