London born now Netherlands based singer songwriter Will Knox has shared a beautiful striped-back acoustic version of his latest single ‘Instant Coffee’ taken from his forthcoming debut album due for release Autumn 2024. We here at Backseat Mafia are very pleased to be premiering the video for the track.
Produced by Ian Grimble (Daughter, Bear’s Den, Matt Corby) ‘Instant Coffee’ joins an exquisite collection of songs on his debut album that include collaborations with two rising female artists Emma Bale (Warner Benelux) and néomí (PIAS) and co-writes with Fin Greenall (a.k.a Fink) and Celine Cairo.
Will comments about the track:
“I started writing new music during lockdown, having learned I was going to become a father for the first time. The time allowed me to confront a lot of issues from my past, and I was determined not to pass them on to my son. ‘Instant Coffee’ is a song about that process of healing, and in my case learning that there are no quick fixes. It’s OK if it takes time.
Knox’s muted percussive guitar playing is all that is needed to back his emotive vocals, which are enhanced by his lyrical phrasing allowing the intimate lyrics to really hit home. It’s a testament to the magical quality of Knox’s songwriting, that even striped back the track is still powerful if not more so
