News: Xinwenyue Shi Returns With New Album ‘Gray, Gray Sun’

Xinwenyue Shi makes his long-awaited return with Gray, Gray Sun, his first full-length album in two years. Showcasing his dynamic artistry, the album fuses hip-hop and pop with effortless finesse, marking an exciting new chapter in his career.

Featuring eight tracks, Gray, Gray Sun blends sticky melodies with contemporary charm while pushing sonic boundaries with bilingual lyrics and evolving soundscapes. Drawing inspiration from classic 1960s and 1970s artists like Bill Withers and The Beatles, Shi recorded the album live in the studio, capturing the organic ebb and flow of human emotion.

Traditional instruments remain integral to Shi’s music, weaving a connection between people, land, and home. The album’s themes of everyday life in Chengdu create a vivid backdrop for his reflections on family and identity. Speaking about the project, Shi explains, “We’ve all felt it – in an age drowning in information, social media often leaves us feeling small like we’re fading into the vast expanse. It creates a sense of being lost, caught in a grey area where clarity slips away and nothing feels certain. It was in this space that the idea of ‘Gray, Gray Sun’ emerged.”

Since debuting in 2021, Shi has captivated listeners worldwide with his introspective storytelling and ‘silky smooth hip-hop style.’ His music has been championed by Netease Cloud Music and Wonderland, earning spots on major streaming playlists. With Gray, Gray Sun, he continues his journey, solidifying his place as a rising talent to watch in 2025.
