In an emotional milestone, Cardiff-born, Welsh-speaking artist Lily Beau releases her debut EP Little Old Me, a heartfelt and soulful dive into themes of unrequited love, the anxieties of growing up, and the journey of self-healing. For Lily, an artist of Irish and Jamaican descent, the EP marks both a musical and personal evolution—one that’s been a long time in the making.
“Little Old Me is really significant to me as it marks my musical debut in English,” Lily says. “I’ve had some of these songs in my notebooks since I was 17, and I can’t wait for them to be heard outside of my four bedroom walls.”
Growing up in a vibrant home filled with vinyl Jazz records and the cinematic tales of classic movies, Lily began crafting songs at 12 years old. She remembers those early days fondly, writing songs inspired by childhood dreams and a serious crush on actor Daniel Radcliffe. The spark of her creativity led her to London at 16, where she attended East London Arts and Music. There, Lily honed her skills while also building a career in A&R, learning the business of music but never letting go of her own artistic dreams.
Throughout her journey in the industry, Lily remained steadfast in her own path as an artist, performing at renowned venues like the Troubadour, Proud Camden, Royal Festival Hall, Wales Millennium Centre, and Cardiff City Stadium. Her passion and resilience earned her the opportunity to support artists such as Jack Savoretti, Joel Culpepper, and Mace the Great, deepening her presence in the live music scene and forging a loyal fanbase. In 2023, Lily partnered with producer Nate Williams, taking her bedroom-written songs into a professional studio, which brought her dream debut project to life.
The EP is a genre-blending mix of pop, folk, and singer-songwriter influences, capturing Lily’s versatility and artistic growth. Lead singles ‘Too Close’ and the title track, ‘Little Old Me’, have already earned a place on BBC Radio Wales’ esteemed Welsh A-List and been highlighted by BBC Introducing. Her tracks resonate with a broad audience while still feeling deeply personal, reflecting her journey from a young dreamer to a self-assured artist.
“These songs have been my therapy, written over the years as I navigated love, anxiety, and the process of growing up,” Lily reflects. “From writing about childhood crushes to dealing with the realities of adulthood, every note and lyric is a piece of me.”
Lily’s accomplishments don’t end with her music. In 2022, she was chosen to perform at the Nobel Peace Centre as a representative of Wales, and she previously composed a theme for the Welsh Government’s post-pandemic reopening, which she performed for the Queen. Her career also includes acting, with starring roles in the Welsh BAFTA-winning film Y Sŵn and the 2021 BAFTA-nominated TV show Y Goleudy.
With Little Old Me, Lily steps confidently into the spotlight, ready to share her voice beyond the walls of her childhood bedroom and into the world. “I can’t wait for the world to hear these songs and for my music to finally exist beyond my bedroom walls,” she shares.
