Melbourne’s Void Of Vision are stepping into a new chapter with their upcoming album, ‘What I’ll Leave Behind’, slated for release on September 20 via UNFD. The band have also dropped a new single and accompanying video, ‘Gamma Knife.’
The track pulses with intensity, weaving between raw, simmering verses and electrifying choruses, all the while laying bare vocalist Jack Bergin’s journey of personal growth following a harrowing health ordeal. Void Of Vision are not just redefining modern heavy music—they’re setting a new standard.
“Gamma Knife is about my near death experience and the desire for clarity in the aftermath. To truly discover if everything I went through in the healing process would change me and everything around me for the better. I felt like the idea of going through radio-surgery figuratively felt like it was not only destroying the malformation in my brain but also a negative version of myself I needed to leave in the past.”
Jack Bergin
Jack Bergin’s world was turned upside down one night after suffering a seizure that nearly resulted in him biting off his tongue. He was rushed to hospital by his family and an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) (a tangled web of blood vessels) in his brain was diagnosed.
Rather than slowing down, Bergin pressed on. Just days after being discharged from the hospital, he was on set, shooting a fierce music video for ‘DOMINATRIX,’ the lead single from the band’s 2023 EP, ‘CHRONICLES II: HEAVEN.’ This was followed by international tours across North America and Europe, before returning home to record ‘CHRONICLES III: UNDERWORLD.’
On April 5, 2023, Bergin woke up with a severe headache. Scans done in hospital revealed that the AVM had ruptured, causing a brain bleed. Immediate surgery was necessary, and Void Of Vision’s schedule, packed with headline shows, festivals, and the recording of their next album, was wiped clean as Bergin faced a prolonged hospital stay.
‘What I’ll Leave Behind,’ emerged from Bergen’s life altering experience. Following performances alongside Stray From The Path, Holding Absence, Polaris, and the inaugural Knotfest Australia, Void Of Vision is set to join Aussie heavyweights Parkway Drive on their 20 Year Anniversary Tour this September, along with I Prevail and The Ghost Inside.
