News: Viagra Boys to bring their potent punk to Australian stages in November

Swedish punks Viagra Boys will return to Australia in November 2024.

Celebrated as one of Europe’s best live acts, punk-rock satirists Viagra Boys last graced Aussie shores in 2019. The Swedish outfit have announced that they will be headlining three shows this November in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

Fronted by the incomparable Sebastian Murphy (‘equal parts Iggy Pop and Hank Williams’), whose voice melds an impish smirk with a smoker’s rasp, the band is renowned for its seething satire and darkly comic edge, creating a unique blend of grit and sleaze.

Murphy’s lyrics often dissect the absurdity and backwardness of the modern world, skillfully avoiding prescriptive beliefs or taking sides. The result is a sound marked by playful yet incisive critiques of societal follies and contradictions, all set to a backdrop of heavy, explosive production.

Viagra Boys formed in 2015, bursting onto the music scene with a blend of raw energy and satirical edge. The band have unleashed three critically acclaimed albums that have redefined the boundaries of punk: ‘Street Worms’ (2018), ‘Welfare Jazz’ (2021), and ‘Cave World’ (2022). Another standout moment in their discography is their audacious cover of John Prine’s ‘In Spite Of Ourselves,’ featuring the fierce vocals of Amy Taylor from Amyl and the Sniffers.
