To Kill a King, unveils new 6 live track EP ‘Unplugged In Berlin’. Recorded on the 2018 Bastille Re-orchestrated tour in Berlin, the 6 tracks showcase a stripped-back arrangements, topped with the bands stylistic emotive, commanding lead vocals.
The focus track, ‘Choices,’ performed with Charlie Barnes and Bastille’s charismatic frontman, Dan Smith offers a highlight from the recording – a collaboration that captures the depth and emotion of the original whilst capturing the organic live energy the band possess with the addition of some beautifully arranged vocal harmonies.
In the words of To Kill A King’s Ben Jackson, the EP captures the essence of the band’s early, intimate performances—reminiscent of living room gigs or Sofar Sounds shows. The setting may have evolved to a grander stage in Berlin, but the intimacy, emotion, and rawness remain palpable. Jackson highlights the opportunity to showcase lesser-known tunes like “Oh Joy,” adding a special touch to the release.
Speaking about the EP To Kill A King’s Ben Jackson shares:
“In ‘Unplugged in Berlin’ we present the sort of stripped-back, kind-of-acoustic arrangements we would normally have performed at an intimate living room gig or Sofar Sounds show when we were starting out. Except instead of performing to 15 couples on slightly awkward dates, we were performing to a 2000-odd excited Berliners in a venue that looks like it would be Sauron’s favourite concert hall. We think that the intimacy, emotion and rawness has translated well though and it’s a nice opportunity to perform some rarer tunes like “Oh Joy” that we haven’t played much live before.”
This EP marks To Kill A King’s first release since their third album, ‘The Spiritual Dark Age’, in 2018. Following the EP’s launch, the band is set to embark on a UK tour in the new year, commemorating the ten-year anniversary of their critically acclaimed album, ‘Cannibals With Cutlery’. This six-date tour promises a track-for-track performance of the landmark record, coupled with long-standing fan favorites. It’s an opportunity for fans to re-immerse themselves in the band’s signature sound—known for honest songwriting, anthemic melodies, and intricate instrumentation.
