Three best mates, one debut album, and enough emotional indie-pop to make you text your ex at 2am — the Stamps are ready to break (and mend) hearts with In All The Ways I Am, their just-announced debut album dropping August 8 via Community Music.

Fresh from the sun-drenched margins of Naarm/Melbourne by way of Walyalup/Fremantle, the trio — Scarlett Graham, Rubina Bertolini and Sofia Hourani (she/her, all) — are kicking off a hometown residency at Merri Creek Tavern this Monday. But before they step on stage, they’ve delivered their biggest news yet: a full-length, nine-track emotional rollercoaster recorded at The Grove Studios, and mixed by none other than Michael Brauer (yep, the Grammy-winning genius behind Coldplay and Florence).

The band has dropped a new track ahead of the upcoming album. Written after watching doomed backpacker romance bloom on a trip to Vietnam, ‘Jamie’s Song’ is the band’s ode to not knowing what the hell’s going on, but dancing anyway. Shimmering production contrasts with razor-sharp lyrics about losing yourself in someone else’s city — and the internal chaos that comes after.

With airplay on triple j, Unearthed, 2SER and Triple R, co-signs from Slowdive themselves (after the Stamps covered ‘Alison’), and standout sets at NYE on the Hill, Loch Hart and Queenscliff, the band has quietly carved a name for themselves as one of the most compelling acts in the indie-pop underground. Now, with In All The Ways I Am, they’re turning the volume up.

Described by the band as a “sonic diary,” the album reflects the deep, unshakable bond between the trio — one that began at high school in Fremantle and kept burning through snail mail and timezone gaps when Scarlett moved back to Toronto. Eventually, the three reunited and moved to Naarm to build something together.

Like their heroes in boygenius, the Stamps split songwriting and vocal duties, harmonising as easily as they finish each other’s sentences. They’re the kind of band you want to be friends with — or are friends with, if you’ve ever felt unmoored, in-between, or not-quite-sure-how-to-grow-up.

Tickets to their April residency at Merri Creek Tavern are on sale now. Expect dancing, crying, and a lot of harmonies. And don’t forget to write — their PO Box is open.
