After years of building anticipation, experimental duo The Hogstad Brothers have finally delivered their debut album, Creatures in the Dirt—a bold, genre-blurring release that marks a major milestone in their creative journey. Dropped in the midst of an already busy 2025, the nine-track project is a showcase of their signature fusion of infectious melodies, textured soundscapes, and emotional introspection.
With tracks like ‘Spinning Round’, ‘Take Me Higher’, and ‘Worth It’ laying the groundwork for the full release, the album sees the Palmdale-born, New York-based brothers push further into the world of left-field production. Balancing groove-heavy rhythms with deeply human storytelling, Creatures in the Dirt underscores the duo’s unique position in the underground music scene—unapologetically experimental yet undeniably accessible.
“A lot of struggles were happening in our lives when we wrote this album,” the brothers share. “Our exploration of these struggles happened alongside and through the sonic and lyrical explorations found in these songs. Creatures in the Dirt is ultimately about a tumultuous journey towards compassion for ourselves and one another.”
The album is the culmination of a years-long evolution. After relocating to New York in 2008, the multi-instrumentalist pair began crafting their musical identity—one that blends immersive dance environments with a visual performance element, including interactive psychedelic projections. Their past work, including the 2018 Flyer Learning EP and the acclaimed 2021 release A World of Love and Hate (featuring vocalist Shola Adisa-Farrar), hinted at their boundary-pushing ethos. But with Creatures in the Dirt, The Hogstad Brothers fully arrive—offering a cohesive body of work that captures their emotional range and sonic experimentation.
