News: The glittering SILT announce new EP and release the cinematic single ‘You Hate It’

After catching our attention with their single ‘I Always Need a Break’ back in June (see our review here), Melbourne-based indie pop delights SILT are back with news of their forthcoming EP ‘Contact High’ due out on 1 October 2021 and the release of a new sparkling jewel for the collection, the reflective ballad ‘You Hate It’.

While the trademark jangling and lush sound remain, the band takes a slower path framed by sweeping strings and singer Jess Polain’s vocals providing a velvet coated delight with a steel spine. While the melodies soar, the instrumentation forms a subtle background like glittering stars in the firmament. Polain says of the track:

I wrote this in a bit of a state. All the lyrics were written on a train home from work after I had spent the day stewing over a particular argument. Something that always seems to crop up in my songwriting is my need for space, and learning how to ask for it and set boundaries. This song is no exception. I have to say I am very proud of this one, especially the very direct, almost stream-of-consciousness lyrics in the bridge. The strings, arranged by the incredible Danna, really brought the drama of this song to life.

The result is something cinematic and bold: this a band confirming its status as a formidable talent:

‘Contact High’ will be available on 1 October 2021 – something to look forward.
