News: Sydney’s psychedelic duo Velvet Trip announce debut album ‘Harmony Blooms’, sweetened by the release of the dynamic pop blast of ‘Silly Boy’ and a launch date.

Sydney duo Velvet Trip blast a ray of blinding sunshine into the ether out of the dark winter days down under with the pure pop infectious beats of the single ‘Silly Boy’ – a cathartic, incandescent anthem with a groove so deep you would need sonar to reach the bottom. It is a delightful precursor to the announcement of their debut album ‘Harmony Blooms’ due out on 3 November, with a single launch being held on 29 July.

Lead singer Zeppelin Hamilton says of the track:

‘Silly Boy’ is a tongue-in-cheek jab at viral skits, social media, and 15 minutes of fame. I used to make viral internet videos until things got a little out of hand. It took hitchhiking around Australia, a crocodile farm in Darwin, and breaking my foot in Indonesia to call it quits on that part of my life. Fake it till ya make it baby!

A mountainous synth, booming ambulant bass and a funky guitar riff set off the sparks before the distant dreamy vocals fold into the mix along with a celestial chorus. I detect a touch of Air, Mark Ronson and even fellow antipodeans Empire of the Sun. It’s fun, funky and utterly compelling dance music that would excite even the most grumpy old listener like myself. It’s so infectious it needs a government health warning.

‘Silly Boys’ is out everywher now and can be downloaded or streamed here.

Velvet Trip are gearing up for a single launch show at Waywards in Sydney on July 29 to celebrate the release of their latest single – tickets available here

Today the duo announce their debut album ‘Harmony Blooms’, set for release on Friday, November 3.

Hamilton says of the album:

In my head, making an album was going to be an easy task – write some songs, record them and buda bim bada boom… Glastonbury haha. After a pandemic, breakups, band members leaving, broken bones, health scares, 3 AM remote mixing sessions and spending all my money on microphones whilst learning how to use logic… I guess it wasn’t that easy.

For it to be finished and ready is already a big achievement for us in itself and we are very proud. This album represents growth, exploration of identity, heartbreak, friendship, resilience, and a lot of love.

Travelling throughout Europe and Morocco with a guitar, $100 in his bank account and a broken hand, Harmony Blooms was created in Zeppelin’s leather book.

It was a weird time. When I came home to Australia, I had an album.. but shortly after, the world came to a halt. Clay and I were living together at the time, and we basically had no choice but to start recording the album together in the garage. Eventually, we took everything to Phan Sjarif at Parliament Studios to get his expertise on the project. Over the next 2-3 years we co-produced ‘Harmony Blooms’ together.

This is a band going places fast.

Hamilton was also recently selected to be part of Mushroom Groups ‘First Nations Pathway Program’ for 2023 and is currently undertaking a mentorship with the likes of Mo’Ju and Tasmin Keith.

Velvet Trip also grabbed the attention of Daft Punk collaborators, Parcels and toured as their main support act for their entire run of sold-out Australian shows. Velvet Trip performed at iconic venues such as The Enmore, The Forum, and The Tivoli.

Velvet Trip also notably performed at the Sydney Opera House alongside Wiradjuri poet Jazz Money and was featured on the ABC program ‘Going Country’ with Emily Wurramara.
