Legendary Californian rock band Stone Temple Pilots have officially announced their highly anticipated return to Australia this February and March to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their chart-topping, multi-platinum sophomore album, Purple. In celebration of this significant milestone, the band will be performing the entire album in full at each of their shows.
The tour will commence at the ICC Sydney Theatre on February 28 and will then continue through Melbourne, where they will headline the Hello Sunshine Festival, followed by performances in Adelaide, Newcastle, and Brisbane. The tour will conclude on the Gold Coast at the Hello Sunshine Festival. Joining them for the national tour will be Australian rock veterans Wolfmother, who will open each show with a selection of their well-known hits.
Released on June 7, 1994, ‘Purple’ was the highly anticipated follow-up to Stone Temple Pilots’ 1992 debut album, ‘Core,’ which sold over eight million copies and garnered a GRAMMY Award. Upon its release, ‘Purple’ debuted at number one on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart and swiftly became a fan favorite, achieving sales of over six million copies. The album features some of the band’s most iconic tracks, including ‘Interstate Love Song’ and ‘Vasoline,’ both of which topped the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Additionally, Purple includes the song ‘Big Empty,’ which initially appeared on the soundtrack for the film The Crow. This track became a significant Top 10 hit on both mainstream and modern rock charts and earned the MTV Movie Award for Best Song in a Movie.
Tickets to the ‘Purple’ anniversary tour go on sale Friday 6 September at 9AM (AEST), for further information, visit www.teamwrktouring.com.
