The iconic British synth-pop band Soft Cell is set to embark on their first-ever Australian tour in April 2025, much to the excitement of fans. The tour will feature a full performance of their classic album Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, including timeless hits such as ‘Tainted Love’ and fan favourites like ‘Where Did Our Love Go.’

In addition to performing the band’s well-known tracks, lead vocalist Marc Almond will also present selections from his extensive solo career, which spans over four decades.

Soft Cell, the duo of Marc Almond and David Ball, weren’t just chart-toppers in the ’80s—they were culture-shapers. With ‘Tainted Love’ turning into a global anthem, they pulled off something rare: a crossover hit that didn’t just dominate the airwaves but rewrote them. The single shot to No. 1 in 17 countries, including Australia, where it cracked the Top 10. But the impact of Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret, their platinum debut album, didn’t stop at the sales charts. Songs like ‘Bedsitter’ and ‘Say Hello, Wave Goodbye’ tapped into the disillusionment and restlessness of the era, connecting with listeners who felt both alienated and electric, soundtracked by synths.

Soft Cell became mainstays of the UK charts with 12 Top 40 hits, including ‘Torch’ and ‘What.’ And then there was Marc Almond, whose career post-Soft Cell was anything but a retreat. His solo work ventured deeper into cabaret, torch songs, and collaborations that cemented his icon status. Collaborating with Gene Pitney on ‘Something’s Gotten Hold of My Heart,’ Almond wasn’t just a synth-pop star anymore—he was a figurehead for bold, androgynous identity and fearless self-expression, a trailblazer in the LGBTQ+ community long before it was mainstream.

Soft Cell’s fingerprints are all over pop music, from their influence on bands like Pet Shop Boys and Erasure to Rihanna sampling them on ‘S.O.S.’ With over 25 million records sold and a BRIT Award, their legacy endures—not just as ‘80s synth-pop pioneers, but as innovators who rewired pop culture at its core.
