News: Short Stack is Back! Celebrating 15 Years of Debut Album ‘Stack is the New Black’ With National Tour

Short Stack is back—and this time, they’re bringing nostalgia for one of Australia’s defining pop-punk eras. In June 2025, the Budgewoi trio will hit the road for their 15 Years of Stack Is the New Black headline tour, celebrating their 2009 debut album.

Kicking off at The Tivoli in Meanjin/Brisbane on Friday, June 6, the tour will visit Eora/Sydney, Kaurna/Adelaide, Naarm/Melbourne, and Boorloo/Perth, wrapping up at The Astor Theatre on Friday, June 20. It’s a chance for longtime fans and newcomers alike to revel in the infectious energy of a record that put Short Stack on the map and defined the sound of a generation of Aussie pop-punk.

When ‘Stack Is the New Black’ dropped in 2009, it was an instant hit, packed with anthems like ‘Sway Sway Baby!’, ‘Shimmy A Go Go’, and ‘Princess’. Its gold certification and cult status were just the beginning for the band, who went on to dominate the scene with their unique blend of catchy hooks, dramatic flair, and those unforgettable fringes.

For many fans, this tour is a return to where it all began, but Short Stack hasn’t been sitting idle since the Y2K’s. From winning Channel V Oz Artist of the Year twice to releasing four #1 albums on the ARIA Australian Albums Chart, including 2022’s ‘Maybe There’s No Heaven’, they’ve proven they’re much more than a flash in the pop-punk pan.

The 15th-anniversary celebration of Stack Is the New Black promises more than just a trip down memory lane. It’s a chance to see a band that has grown, reunited, and reinvented themselves without ever losing the magic that made them a staple of Australia’s pop-punk scene.
