News: Second Language Releases Fresh Remix of ‘Swing Time’

Los Angeles-based alternative rock band Second Language has released an exciting new remix of their track ‘Swing Time’via Alternator Records. Known for their eclectic mix of post-punk and new wave influences, Second Language continues to build on their storied career with this vibrant new offering.

Formed in 1981, Second Language has made a significant impact on the music scene with their EP Souvenirs, substantial national college radio airplay, and performances opening for major acts such as Love & Rockets, Blancmange, and Howard Devoto. Their latest release further cements their legacy in the alternative rock genre.

The band’s figurehead, Jessie Jacobson, who came out as a trans woman on January 1, 2002, described this decision as the only New Year’s resolution she’s ever kept. Reflecting on the remix, Jessie shares, “We wrote ‘Swing Time’ in 1988 about a romantic relationship gone wrong. This version was recorded in 1992 for our album WrongSpeak, which was released in 1996. It was remixed in 2024 in Dolby Atmos by Michael James for a single release. The new remix breathes fresh life into the song, hopefully making it resonate with both longtime fans and new listeners.”

‘Swing Time’ delves into the tumultuous dynamics of a dysfunctional relationship, and the latest remix by renowned mixer Michael James infuses the track with fresh, upbeat energy. The remix seamlessly blends rhythm guitars, ethereal backing vocals, dynamic drums, bass, and keyboards, resulting in a rejuvenated sound that honors the band’s alternative rock roots while introducing new and compelling sonic elements.
