Singer-songwriter Prince of Sweden demonstrates a soulful indie-rock fusion on his latest offering ‘Kicking out Time’. The EP flaunts four warming tracks that invite the listener into Prince of Sweden’s nostalgic reflection.
Kicking off with lead track ‘The View From the Top Rope’, a wistful vocal line and lounge rock sonics create the intimate tone that runs throughout out the EP. When asked about the opening track Prince of Sweden shared, “The song’s about recollections of childhood, I guess. Things that stick in your mind and the sound of the TV in the background with the wrestling on.”
‘A Little Candlelight’ is a swaying slice of heaven. The romantic declaration highlights Prince of Sweden’s melodic and passion-filled vocals which bring the themes of unrequited love to life.
The most upbeat effort from this project comes in the form of ‘For Kathleen’, an energising indie-rock song that features unforgettable jangling guitar. With lyrics you can imagine being chanted by a crowd back to him, Prince of Sweden flaunts his anthemic ability.
The EP draws to a close with its title track. 52 seconds of yearning synths against the backdrop of the crackles and pops from a vinyl spinning make for the perfect finale to this profound collection of tracks.
