Singer-Songwriter Nicki Wells releases the stunning 12 track album ‘Ellipsis’, a masterclass of delicate, heartfelt, personal songwriting which perfectly captures a sense of sincerity and fragility.
Released alongside the new single ‘Never Will’, Wells continues to showcase her prowess as both a performer and a songwriter. Built around a warming piano line comparable to Bon Iver’s cover of ‘I can’t Make You Love Me’, the track is a perfect example of Nicki’s story telling lyricism and intense, melancholic aesthetic. Topped with Wells’ breathy, silky lead vocals which almost whisper their way through notes, the mellow, muted tone of the piano is matched by the subtle, beautifully understated yet affecting vocal delivery.
Adorned by subtle splashes of backing vocals and spine tingle inducing reverbs, the new single and opening track from the album truly draws you in, ready to discover the rest of the albums beautiful tones.
Speaking on the sound of the track and the album as a whole, Wells explains: “The way it’s been produced is very stripped back, I really fell in love with organic sounds, so that’s what you hear on the album: real strings, double bass, drums. It has more life to it.”
