News: Mansfield’s Indie Rockers The Publics Share Debut EP ‘I Know The World Stopped, but Why Did You?’

Mansfield Indie-Rockers The Publics release of their explosive debut EP ‘I Know The World Stopped, but Why Did You?‘. With a sound that blends grounded ‘small-town’ storytelling and a stadium-worthy melodies and explosive musicality, the five-piece band is poised to extend their reach across the UK and beyond.

Drawing influence from the indie sound of the 2010s and infusing it with a cinematic atmosphere, the band aims to elevate their sound while staying true to their roots. Capturing an urgent sense of energy through their biting guitar tones, punching drums and grounding bass, the tracks capture a buoyant live gig feel, whilst powerful lyricism and catchy vocal melodies give the tracks a commercial edge.

“Most of our songs are written as character studies based on either people we’ve met or stories shared by friends about people they know,” the band explains. “Relatability is key to connecting with an audience, and we haven’t necessarily lived the most ‘relatable’ lives. But by telling others’ stories, we can cover a range of topics. When we do write personal songs like I Know the World Stopped, but Why Did You? and Murphy’s Law, they have that extra emotional kick.”

The Publics have spent the past year building momentum with a heavy gigging schedule, including high-profile support slots alongside The Sherlocks and The Lottery Winners, and standout performances at festivals like YNOT? and Splendour. The new EP showcases the reason they’ve been appearing on these bills and highlights the band are one to watch.
