Machine Girl will return to Australia and New Zealand this June for a series of headline shows, including performances in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland, with a stop at Hobart’s Dark Mofo festival. The tour follows the release of their latest album MG Ultra and marks their first visit since signing to Australian label Future Classic.
Led by producer Matt Stephenson, Machine Girl have developed a reputation for fusing breakcore, punk, industrial and noise into a high-intensity sound that resists easy classification. Their music is fast, chaotic, and often cathartic — a whirlwind of live drums, heavy distortion, and digital overload.
Known for explosive live sets, the current lineup features percussionist Sean Kelly and guitarist Lucy Caputi, who join Stephenson in transforming songs into a full-bodied, high-speed experience. Their performances have earned a devoted following, thanks to their unpredictable energy and genre-breaking approach.
MG Ultra pushes the project further into experimental territory. Drawing on influences from anime, horror, and dystopian culture, the album explores themes of alienation, dysmorphia, and digital life under pressure. The title references the controversial MK Ultra experiments, framing the record as a study in fractured identity and control.
Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering them for the first time, Machine Girl’s upcoming tour is set to offer something unique — loud, intense, and impossible to ignore.
